Snap Map – New Location Sharing Feature
Snapchat introduces a new feature called Snap Map. As the name implies, it shows you the Snaps on a map. It lets you see where your friends are using the app. It is an easy to access feature and here, we take a quick look at how it works and what you can do with it. Let’s check out the details.
Where is the New Feature?
To get access to this new feature, users have to pinch with two fingers on the home screen. This brings up the screen to Snap Map. The new feature lets you see Snaps from all over the world. So, just zoom out and view more. If you pinch to zoom by spreading your fingers apart, it zooms your phone camera. Thus, pinch your fingers close together to launch this new feature.
Get Friends’ Location
It is meant to offer you a new way to see what your friends are doing and where they are doing it by overlaying their snaps onto a map. This new feature allows users to zoom out to their neighborhood, city, country and even continent to see where other Snapchat friends are located.
No Constant Tracking
According to Snapchat, your location on Snap Map is updated when you open the app. This also implies that you are not being constantly tracked. When you don’t want your friends to know where you are at a particular period of time, just don’t open Snapchat or can enable Ghost Mode.
Enabling Settings
When your friends have their location enabled but they have not snapped anything recently, the app shows their Bitmoji. When you tap on the settings icon, you can choose to select who can view your location or you can also turn it off entirely.
Snapchat Stories
Snap Map also allows users to find stories that are happening around their locations. In the past, Snapchat has been criticized for making it difficult to find new users to connect with or stories to watch. Now, with this feature, Snapchat tries to overcome that issue.
Snapchat Heat Maps
Snap Map also indicates heatmaps of popular events happening in your area such as concerts going on or major demonstration happening downtown.
Though its competitors such as Facebook and Instagram continue to imitate its features, Snapchat has always been looking for newer and bolder ways to stand out.
