Microsoft Surface Laptop
Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop at the New York Spring event. It runs on the education-focused Windows 10 S and comes in four color options: cobalt blue, platinum, burgundy and graphite gold. The laptop is available for pre-order and shipping starts June 15. Microsoft Surface Laptop is designed to compete against the likes of Google Chromebooks and Apple MacBooks in the education sector in US.
Run Windows 10 S
Surface Laptop runs Windows 10 S, which loads faster as compared to the regular Windows 10. You can run the apps that Microsoft has verified and if you want to run something out of the store, you need to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. Windows 10 Pro upgrade is available only till December 31, 2017. Windows 10 S is integrated with the OneDrive cloud storage. This ensures that all your files are saved to the cloud and are accessible from other devices as well.
Display and Design
Microsoft Surface Laptop features a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display having resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixelsand 201 ppi. The display sports 10 point multi-touch and has an aspect ratio of 3:2. The company touts it as the ‘thinnest touchscreen LCD display’ on laptop. It is durable and portable gadget and comes with a premium finish. The design looks sleek and includes iconic Alcantra fabric keyboard. The device weighs only 1.25 kg and the thickness varies from 9.9mm to 14.47mm.
Connectivity
In terms of ports, it includes USB 3.0 port, headset jack, surface connect port, and mini displayport. It is compatible with Surface Dial as well as Surface Dock. On the Wi-Fi front, it is 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible. The laptop comes with Windows Hello face sign-in camera, 720p HD front-facing. In terms of battery life, Microsoft promises 14.5 hours.
Price and Specifications
As far as the pricing is concerned, it starts at $999 and goes all the way to $2199, depending on the kind of configurations you want. The Intel Core i5 version with 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM along with Intel HD Graphics 620 costs $999. The one with Intel Core i5 with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM along with Intel HD Graphics 620 costs $1299. Intel Core i7 with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM along with Intel Iris 640 graphics costs $1599. Then, there’s the costliest model with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD and Intel Core i7 is priced at $2199.
