OnePlus 3T vs OnePlus 3
Because of its unbeatable flagship performance and affordable price tag, the OnePlus 3 is undoubtedly this year’s one of the best Smartphones. But just after a few months of launching this beast the company has released an upgraded version of the handset called OnePlus 3T.
The question is which one of the two OnePlus handsets is the better buy? Scroll down to view a detailed comparison and decide which one’s good for you.
Design and Display – No Change at All
If you were expecting some considerable design changes in the recent launch, then you’ll definitely be disappointed. The company choose to stick to the tried and tested and decided not to make any design changes at all.
We know this sounds a little frustrating to you, but the matter of fact is you’ll find the similar top-notch aluminum frame which not only looks good in hand but also supports more tactual grip than other available devices.
The company has also replaced the OnePlus 3’s Graphite color with Gunmetal, which is more of a darker shade of gray, while the soft gold option for both the handsets remains.
Design and Display – Specs
For display, both the devices feature same 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display with 1920×1080p screen resolution and 401ppi pixel density. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 4 cover, which is a setback for those expecting the latest Gorilla Glass 5, the one Samsung included in its Galaxy Note 7.
Improved Processor, Extra Storage
One of the major changes OnePlus made in its new launch is updating the old Snapdragon 820 SoC to the more efficient Snapdragon 821 chipset.
Although this change doesn’t look sizable on paper, but the answer here is efficiency. The Snapdragon 821 processor runs smoothly and consistently even at full speed as compared to the previous-gen Snapdragon 820.
In addition, it also consumes less power in comparison with the Snapdragon 820 CPU, which will also result in less battery use. Besides this, the processor also possesses upgrades for Android’s shaky areas like scrolling and web browsing.
For storage, both the Smartphones feature 64GB of RAM and sadly there is no inclusion of microSD card slot for memory expansion. However, the good news is OnePlus 3T model also comes in a 128GB variant, paving the way for gamers and selfie addicts.
Better Selfie-Clicker
Both Smartphones sport similar 16MP primary camera, however, the front-facing snapper in OnePlus 3T packs in 16MP clicker than the 8MP in its predecessor. Also, the sapphire glass lens cover, Smart Pixel Technology and improved EIS are some of the considerable additions too.
Bigger, Better Battery
The OnePlus 3T is backed by a bigger 3,400mAh battery backup, which is somewhat improved than the 3000mAh battery support in OnePlus 3. In addition, both handsets also feature a wireless charge as well as Dash Charge support.
Operating System
Both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T run on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box. This again is a little upsetting as customers were expecting to taste the flavor of Android Nougat 7.0 in the latest entrant.
Price – Reasonable Rise
The OnePlus 3T features a price tag of $439 which is slightly higher than OnePlus 3 which landed at $399. Beyond a doubt, the OnePlus 3T is slightly overpriced than its predecessor, but considering the recent amendments and upgrades, this seems to be a fair bump.
The Final Verdict
Apparently, both the Smartphones are almost similar. However, if you’re a hardcore selfie-fanatic, the camera improvements are for you.
For those looking for a new Smartphone which can allow them enjoy good battery, speed and fine clicks can surely invest their money on this selfie-centric upgrade. However, considering the similarities in both the devices, upgrading from OnePlus 3 to OnePlus 3T model isn’t worth the price.
OnePlus 3T will hit the retail markets in the US starting from 22nd November, while customers in the UK can have their hands on the Smartphone on 28th of November.
What do you think of the latest device? Do you prefer upgrading your current OnePlus 3 to the latest OnePlus 3T model or hold off till the OnePlus 4 hit the market?
