Meet Crowdsource Android App
A new Google app called Crowdsource has quietly appeared on the Google Play Store. The app asks users to perform brief tasks that help Google to improve the quality of its services. Today, millions of people are dependent on Google services such as Google Maps, Google Search, Google Translate and more. Crowdsource Android app asks users to help out with handwriting recognition, maps translation validation, translation, writing recognition and more. It lets you contribute your own suggestions. Google has also recently updated its Google Wallet app.
Free App
Google says in the app description, “Each microtask takes no more than 5-10 seconds, so knock away a few the next time you find yourself with a few moments to kill – be it while waiting in line at the grocery store or on the train ride home. Everytime you use it, you know that you’ve made the internet a better place for your community.”
Improve Google Services
The app is solely focused on helping Google to improve its services. Crowdsource asks users what languages they are fluent in and then, allowing them to handle translation requests. They are large buttons to choose from selection of micro-tasks. The app includes several micro-tasks such as image transcription, handwriting recognition, translation and translation validation and map translation validation.
Various Micro-Tasks
The tasks included in the app depend on the language or languages you are fluent in. You can help with image transcription and handwriting recognition. Most of the images are street signs and handwriting samples. One can also verify translations for text and maps data.
Crowdsource app is not offering something to users for their contribution. Though giving a few credits may be in the form of Google Play credits in exchange could encourage more contributions from the users.
