Lenovo announced a new range of smartphones that will be coming to US later this year. The most interesting smartphone is the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which is the first consumer device that comes with Google’s Tango augmented reality technology.
Meet Lenovo Phab 2 Pro
The much-anticipated device is the world’s first smartphone which is compatible with Google’s sensory awareness platform. Lenovo Vice President Jeff Meredith noted that it will be globally available beginning in September for $499 only.
Meredith said at Lenovo Tech World in San Francisco said, “We know the market for AR and VR devices is set to explode.” “We truly believe Tango can achieve this level of relevancy,” Meredith said. With Google, he said, Lenovo has created a device “that could become so pervasive that you would take it for granted.”
What is Google Tango?
Google Tango is an initiative way to make phone or tablet aware of its surroundings such as what a room looks like or what the furniture looks like etc. Tango allows you to have an AR experience that disappears is the background and helps you do things easier and better. Using Tango technology, it can map out a physical space, and project virtual effects in a real-world space.
Display and Processor
The phone packs a 6.4-inch QHD display and has a metal unibody. You will be able to buy it in gold or silver. Phab 2 Pro runs a Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM. Thanks to the Dolby Atmos technology, it can record sound in 5.1 surround. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Camera
There’s an 8MP selfie camera on the front and a 16MP main camera on the rear. It comes with a depth camera and a motion tracking camera as well. Project Tango uses a depth-sensing camera array with the purpose to track the 3D motion of the device and create on-phone augmented reality. With Tango, you will be able to look through Lenovo Phab Pro 2 camera to see the world around you. It makes virtual things look like invading the real world.
Other Features
It has a 16 MP camera, a fingerprint sensor, a 4,000mAh battery and all of the other features you would expect on a modern Android smartphone. What sets this smartphone apart from other phones is the Tango technology. This adds a wide-angle camera and special depth-sensing unit to the main shooter.

Google plans to have 25 Tango-specific apps available in the Play Store when the phone will launch and expects 100 apps to be available by the end of the year. You will be able to get the Phab 2 Pro directly from Lenovo and select retailers at $499.
