Alcatel announced Idol 4 series of smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2016: Alcatel Idol 4 and Idol 4S. These two headsets succeed the Idol 3 range and come with interesting set of features.
Boom Key
The best feature is the “boom key,” a button on the right side that does different things depending on what you are doing and how you have programmed it. This physical button performs different tasks. For example, when you are in camera, this button will acts as a shutter button and when you are on a call, it will boost call volume. If you are listening to music, this boom key will boost audio and bass. It comes with a range of photo, video and music functionalities. This is one of the innovative implementation of a hardware button.
Design
Alcatel 4 and 4S are designed to look symmetrical with front and back surface finished with a seamless glass. They offer a more premium look and feel as compared to their predecessor. Both phones feature two 3.6 watt speakers. As the phones are reversible from left to right, stereo sound is always at its best. The thickness is just 7mm which certainly helps with handling experience. The Idol 4 and Idol 4S come in several color options such as Gold, Dark Grey, Rose Gold and Metal Silver.
Alcatel Idol 4
Alcatel Idol 4 is a sleek, metal and glass smartphone with a midrange price. The screen is bright and clear with Full HD and the 5.2-inch size fits well in the hand. It measures 147 x 72.5 x 7.1mm and weighs 135 grams. Idol 4 is powered by 1.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD card. It runs on Android 6.0. It comes with four way speakers, pointing forward and backward at the top and bottom.
In terms of camera, the Alcatel Idol 4 comes with 13 megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8 megapixel front shooter for selfies. As far as the connectivity options are concerned, it includes Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, FM and 4G. The sensors on the phone include proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and gyroscope. It is a single SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts a Nano-SIM.
Alcatel Idol 4S
The higher-end model, Idol 4S aims to offer good specs for an affordable price. It has a big 5.5-inch Quad HD display of the AMOLED. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor with 3GB of RAM. It is powered by 3,000mAh battery which Alcatel claims to offer 420 hours of standby on a single charge. It also comes with quick charging capabilities. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
As far as the storage capacities are concerned, it includes 32GB storage which can be further expanded up to 512GB via microSD. It comes with 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.
