In addition to announcing the new iPhone SE, Tim Cook also introduced a new iPad Pro, new watch bands and some software updates as well. Here are the complete details.
New 9.7-inch iPad Pro
The big hardware news at the event was the announcement of iPad Pro. Apple make it smaller at 9.7-inch. The new version includes many of the same powerful features as the larger 12.9-inch model. It comes with the same A9x processor and has a similar four-speaker system. It is compatible with the Pencil stylus introduced last year. It will have the Night Shift mode to adjust the display and make reading more comfortable. It has a 64-bit A9X chip and a four-speaker audio system.
Camera
9.7-inch iPad Pro comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera, complete with focus pixels, Live Photos and dual-tone flash. It lets you shoot 4K video, and has a 5MP FaceTime camera and retina flash. The iPad Pro comes with 12MP primary camera with Focus Pixels, True Tone flash. iPad Pro is touted as 40 percent less reflective than an iPad Air 2. It also comes with a new technology called as True Tone Display that measures the color temperature and adjusts the display. The Pro also takes advantage of iOS 9.3 new blue-light reduction feature.
Price and Availability
Prices for the smaller Pro begin at $599 for 32GB version which is a $200 markdown from the cheapest version of the largest Pro. The larger model costs $749 for the 128GB version and $899 for the $256 version. The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro will support the pressure-sensitive Apple Pencil stylus and will come in gold, silver, space grey and rose gold colors for the first-time. It is available to order from 24 March and in shops from 31 March.Now, the iPad Air will now sell for $399, a price cut of $100.
Apple Watch
Apple Watch has also got a price cut and now will sell at $299, down from $349. It will now come with new wristbands made of woven nylon. Tim Cook announced a new line of straps for the wearable such as all new woven nylon bands, a space black Milanese Loop and additional sport and leather bands in various colors.
Software Updates
The latest version of operating system iOS 9.3 is available starting today. The key features added are Night Shift, finger print lock and more. There’s also a small update for the Apple TV OS hat adds folders for apps and Siri voice dictation.
