Vodafone India, the second largest mobile operator of country, announced its plans to rollout 4G services.

The 4G telecom services are launched in Kochi and will be commercially available from December 14, making Vodafone the first to offer 2G, 3G and 4G in Kerala. It is built on a fibre backhaul and is supported by its own new 3G services on a network of 2100 MHz. Kerala is a significant growth market for Vodafone India. Over the last 18 months, the company has invested over Rs. 700 crores in Kerala towards network expansion and modernization. It has 303 exclusive retail stores in the state which is a huge number. The data revenue from Kerala for Vodafone India is growing by over 75% annually.
With this launch, the operator looks to take on market leader Bharti Airtel and the upcoming launch by Reliance Jio Infocomm.
Vodafone said that it will shortly launch the services in Trivandrum and Calicut, while the services in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata will be available by March next year. Testing of 4G services has been commenced at these places. Vodafone has partnered with leading global technology providers for the rollout.
“Vodafone’s global expertise and experience of launching 4G across 19 countries gives us a better understanding of this technology and the needs of the 4G customer,” Vodafone India MD and CEO Sunil Sood said in a statement.
Vodafone has launched 4G in 19 countries globally. The company said that its 4G-LTE services can be accessed from 4G enabled handsets offered by leading smartphone manufacturers available across the country.
Tariffs start at Rs. 29 for 120MB pack and the largest pack is 20GB per month priced at Rs. 2,499. Users can also use 4G mobile Wi-Fi hotspots for up to 10 devices.
