Google has quietly released a new app called “Who’s Down?” on the Play Store. This app has a specific social purpose. It lets you see which of your friends are free to hang out. There’s a quick-to-access toggle switch that let your friends know if you are free. When you slide the toggle from on to off, the connected friends get to know that you are available for say anything. You can choose specific activities you would like to take part in and see which friends are “down to” and chat with them within the app.
Who’s Down app is based on the simple concept. Just toggle an onscreen slider and show that you are available to do something and see if any of your friends are free to get together. It is more akin to a simplified calendar app with a chat feature. It is quite different from friends tracking app and is more focused to let you know the availability of your friends.
The app makes it simpler to invite friends and have limitless options of activities to do together. You need not to send out elaborate invites to your friends. The app includes various options for activities like have drinks, go shopping, play board games etc. Also, you can add your own activity as well. The friends can then respond via yes or no switch and you get to know immediately who’s down and who’s not. The integrated chat feature is a great plus.
Though the app is accessible by invite, you can request one by downloading the app and entering your email and school. Yes, School. This suggests that Google development team is currently targeting the app towards college students. The app’s title specifically says “Fall 2015” so we can assume that general availability will open up soon.
