BlackBerry Priv is creating a lot of buzz around and has been made available for pre-orders for those living in US, UK, Germany and Canada. This new smartphone is the brand’s first-ever Android based smartphone. Let’s check out the details.
Display
Priv smartphone comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard, thin-profile and amazing configurations. It features a 5.4-inch screen, dual-edge display and 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution. The screen comes with Gorilla Class 4 protection.
Camera
The smartphone houses an 18-megapixel Schneider-Kreuznach rear-facing snapper with OIS and 4K video support. For selfie lovers, there’s a 2-megapixel selfie lovers.
Storage and Battery
The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC and comes with 3GB of RAM. It comes equipped with 32GB of in-built storage along with microSD card slot for expansion up to 2TB. The handset features a powerful 3,410 mAh battery, which the company claims can last for up to 22.5 hours under “mixed usage”. In terms of connectivity, this NFC-capable Priv supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, and other standard connectivity options.
Unique Features
The handset touts the slider form factor i.e. you slide up the device and the full physical QWERTY keyboard will be revealed. Though this feature is not common these days, BlackBerry has come up with it to make it stand out from the crowd. The keyboard also doubles as a trackpad. The handset comes with security sophistications, a feature that BlackBerry is renowned for.
Pricing and Availability
At the moment, it costs $699 in US, $899 in Canada and £559 in UK. For those living in US should note that the Priv by BlackBerry is not compatible with CDMA carriers and thus, will not work under Verizon, Sprint and the US Cellular networks. It will be shipped starting Nov 6 in US and Canada and from Nov 9 to UK.
