Microsoft is reportedly developing a new and lightweight chat app called Flow. There are many rumors all around that this app could become the future of all other email apps. According to the description of the app on Twitter, the team behind Outlook is working on an instant messaging-like email app for iPhone.
The app called Flow is currently being tested internally by Microsoft. Flow was first spotted by Twitter user h0x0d. The description says that the app is “a great way to have rapid email conversations on your phone with the people who are most important to you.” Reports suggest that Flow will be an instant messaging app that will compliment Outlook for the iPhone. It will be similar to what Skype Qik is to full Skype app.
The description emphasizes that this chat-like app is lightweight as the app avoids all features that people typically associate with email like subject lines, signatures and greetings.
Looking at the image, you will see the description that kicked off the conversation about the app. It shows that it is a way to have rapid email conversation on your phone with those whom you talk frequently.
- Use Flow with anyone, it’s email: Reach anyone with an email address and all conversations for you and others are also in Outlook. Together, you can use Flow and Outlook interchangeably to participate in the same conversations.
- Fast, fluid, natural conversations: No subject lines, salutations, or signatures. Flow is designed for fast, light-weight conversations in real time.
- Focus on what’s important: Only conversations started in Flow and their replies show up in Flow, not your whole inbox. Focus on your most important person-to-person conversations without the noise.
More details about Flow are not yet clear. Though the leaked description suggests that it is an iPhone app, it is also possible that Microsoft is working on Android and Windows Phone as well. It is not yet clear whether this app will exist alongside Outlook app on the iPhone or will be launched as a separate application. Flow sounds like it would be faster to use than regular Outlook email and would give Microsoft an entry point into the ever-expanding chat app market. If the details are to be believed, the app is set to have an innate connection to Outlook. Microsoft purchased and rebranded email app Accompli and it quickly became the best Gmail app on iOS.
