In the various levels of testing, acceptance Testing is the fifth level of testing and is conducted to test that all the requirements have been achieved according to the clients’ requirements. In other words, Acceptance Testing is a process of testing the software for its acceptability. It is the last phase of testing performed under in black box testing method.

Before the final delivery of the software product in the market, the various acceptance tests need to be passed.
Let’s look at some useful details about acceptance testing:
Goal of Acceptance Testing:
Acceptance Testing aims to attaining high quality product and achieving user/customer satisfaction for the software. This testing ensures that all business requirements are met before delivering product to the customers for final use. It focuses on high rate of users/clients/customers satisfaction.
Basic Guidelines for Conducting Acceptance Testing:
Method Used: Black box testing
When to perform: It is performed after the system and regression testing is completed and most of the major bugs have been fixed.
By whom to be performed: Done by testers/end-users or customers
When to start testing: When all four testing levels are completed without any issues.
Types of Acceptance Testing:
- User acceptance testing (UAT)– It focuses on functional business requirements of the software
- Operational acceptance testing– It is also called as production/factory acceptance testing and focuses on validating system specifications according to the requirements.
- Contract and regulation acceptance testing– This testing focuses on meeting legal government contract and policies as mentioned in the signed contract
- Alpha testing– It is the first level of testing performed at developer’s end.
- Beta testing– This is the second level of testing and is done after alpha testing is complete.
Basic Steps to perform Acceptance Testing:
Step 1: Create acceptance test plan
Step 2: Create acceptance test cases
Step 3: Execute test cases
Step 4: Perform acceptance test following all business requirements are meet
Step 5: At last, perform beta testing on the software application before handing it to real-world users or customer
Benefits of Acceptance Testing:
- Customer satisfaction
- Provides high quality product
- Removes lasting occurring issues/bugs/defects in a software application
- Testing raises productivity
- Process provides high confidence level of achieving errors/bugs free software
- Lowers the risk of fault causes
Wrapping Up
Acceptance Testing is an important phase of testing where the tester ensures that the system compliances with the business requirements and is acceptable for delivery. It is this type of testing that confirms that the system is ready to be made available to the end-users. It is important as it helps demonstrate that the required systems are operating in a manner as desired.
