Google Maps is a great application with turn by turn navigation assisting you in reaching the destination without any discomforts. But, the only downside is to have a reliable internet connection all the way to get to the place. Now, Google has updated the app and bring on the feature of offline availability.
Meet the updated Google Maps
Many times, it happens that the internet connection in India goes down when finding a new place or going to some remote place. Google Maps now supports offline function and will continue to work even when there’s no connectivity. You can download an area of the world to your device and Maps will show you turn by turn directions.
With updated Google Maps, you can obtain turn-by-turn directions, useful information about places and can also search for specific destinations as well. The update is presently available for Android phones and the version for iPhones will come soon.
Google revealed plans that it was aimed mainly for “emerging markets” where internet connection was spotty and data charges are expensive. The company explains that when a connection is found, Maps will automatically switch to online and allows users to access full version of the app like live traffic conditions for the current route etc.
“Having a spotty internet connection shouldn’t mean you miss your next turn. With the launch of these new offline features, like turn by turn navigation and the ability to search for places, we hope it will be easier for people in India to find their way using Google maps.” explains Suren Ruhela, Director, Google Maps in a press statement.
